List: Top Ten most popular names given to male babies in England and Wales

Date: 2007

Source: Office of National Statistics

Base: Births registered in 2007.

Notes: 'Jack' topped the boys list for the 13th year running. According to figures from the Office of National Statistics, 6,772 boys were named Jack in England and Wales in 2007, compared to 6,928 in 2006. Thomas, Oliver, Joshua and Harry also made it into the top five. Fastest movers included Mohammed and Muhammad, which have continued to increase in popularity moving up five and six places to take the 17th and 38th places. If you were to add all the variations on the spelling of Mo' it would be second most popular name on the list. On the other hand, the name Cristiano jumped 572 places in the year that footballer Cristiano Ronaldo won the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year title. An interesting juxtaposition there between the religiously deranged on the one hand and the football as religion deranged on the other.
