Top-Ten-10.com | Top Ten Lists from around the world

GAMES: VIDEO GAMES

List: Top ten Highest Rated Video Games based on marks from cumulative reviews

Date: August 2006

Source: GameRankings.com / Joystiq

Base: GameRanking.com collates editorial reviews from a variety of sources around the world and for every game released, cumulates the % scores and averages them. A typical game will receive at least 30 reviews, the more popular ones over 70.

Notes: Clearly, the subjectivity in scoring inherent within editorial reviews taken from such a wide variety sources (e.g. do German magazines score as highly as UK ones? Will Americans score American games higher than foreign games?) does lead to rather obvious validity errors. On the other hand, GameRanking.com will be collating scores from much the same sources for each release and the quantity helps to even out results. Besides, it's an interesting list and one that doesn't discriminate against older releases.

No hand-helds games made the top ten. The number one game was eight years old at time of publishing the list. Home consoles took 9 positions (Nintendo took 5 and PlayStation 2) and only Half-Life for the PC broke the console stranglehold.
