The poll was created to mark the 75th Academy Awards, otherwise known as the Oscars. Your editor remains unconvinced about the esteem the Shawshank Redemption is held in, a highly overrated film that consistently polls well in these kind of lists. It can hardly be said to be a 'groundbreaking' film in any sense of the word. The Matrix and the Rings series are only ranked highly because of their modernity. Frankly, the absence of Spice World is shocking. This searing, intense study of the London pop scene, with its multi-layered plot lines and the brooding performances of Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, and, errr, the other ones, deserved better...
